It's been quite a few weeks since I last updated my blog. There has been a very good reason though... during the past five weeks I've been a student of Lilla Rogers "Make Art That Sells" (aka MATS) e-course. http://lillarogers.com/make-art-that-sells

This course has taken me on a fantastic design development journey where I have learnt how to illustrate theme based icons taking market trends and colour palettes into consideration and, finally, applying my design onto a product. The five markets we covered over five weeks were Bolt Fabric, Home Decor, Children's Book Illustration, Wall Art and the Gift market.

Here I will share with you my designs for each of the above markets... enjoy xx

1) Bolt Fabric

Our brief was to design a pattern for the Bolt Fabric market based on a root vegetable and vintage pyrex theme. As we were on holiday I only had my iPad and the iDraw app with me and this is what I came up with.

2) Home Decor

Our brief in the second week was to design a pattern for a range of plates, the theme was based on Suzani patterns. Lilla had suggested a colour palette and as it wasn't one I would usually choose I challenged myself to use it.

3) Children's Book Illustration

In the third week we were to design either a cover or double page spread illustrating the well known tale "The tortoise and the Hare". Here's what I submitted...

4) Wall Art

The fourth week's project was to create wall art. We were given a colour combination assigned to our star sign. My colours were yellow and blue.

5) Gift Market

The final week's brief was to create a design for the gift market, specifically a cosmetic zipper pouch, using hyper lush imagery based on a collection we own. I based mine around a Christmas Ornament of mine that I love.

Five weeks of MATS B takes place in Spring 2015 and I'm looking forward to it already!
